When the mother of two little boys gets sick and starts acting crazy, she sends them off to different relatives for the summer. Most people will probably be able to guess the direction this movie takes, kid has troubles, kid goes somewhere new, kid learns lessons, kid’s probably gonna turn out OK. But what makes this movie unique is how it portrays all of the adults as undergoing more or less the same transition as the kid. The setting and episodic nature of the story also are very effective at making the viewer nostalgic for a place they’ve never been. Worth checking out.
