Seeking a Friend for the End of the World by William

Steve Carell is in quiet sad everyman mode as an impending asteroid strike gives everyone on Earth three weeks to live. The end of the world makes some people go nuts, while others start to think about what gives their lives meaning and whether they can accomplish some final goal to make up for the opportunities they have squandered. Steve Carell falls into that “accomplish some goal” group.

When you were a young person, you had all these amazing experiences, simply because you were experiencing things for the first time, and it all felt unique and special. Then you get older and these things start to seem more mundane. But the great thing about the end of the world is that everything becomes unique and special again! I’d say the movie is “worth watching” for the opportunity to see a serious adult person like Steve Carell start looking at his days with a sense of wonder, without feeling obligated yourself to feel cynical or roll your eyes at such cheesy displays of sentiment. So, Worth Watching and currently available to stream on Netflix.

Bonus features: Keira Knightly, and a song that is extremely similar to Radiohead’s “Creep.”
