Robert Redford is out on the ocean alone when his boat gets hit by a wayward shipping container. The rest of the movie he spends quietly trying not to die. Perhaps because of the almost complete lack of dialogue, the movie feels unique and compelling. Worth watching.

Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert Redford and a newscaster and station manager duo, and they are also romantically involved. With any romantic movie, you expect a certain amount of silliness and unbelievable situations. But those parts of the plot, those kinds of situations that could only happen in Hollywood, are part of the fun. Even still, this movie is so cliched, so unoriginal and so unwieldy that I can’t imagine anyone enjoying it. Unwatchable. I got 20 minutes in.

This one’s got Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, River Phoenix, Ben Kingsley, James Earl Jones, Dan Aykroyd, and Ned Ryerson from Groundhog Day. When all-stars like these get together to make a movie, it’s gonna be good fun. You might consider this a precursor to Mission Impossible and Ocean’s 11, and as such the caper-type action here is not as intricate as in those movies, but yeah, we just like to see these guys having a good time together. Also, Battlestar Galactica’s Laura Roslin.

Robert Redford plays a dispirited Cold War relic who, on his last day at work, must fool his CIA superiors. I like the idea that a fast-paced thriller can take place in an office building, everyone maintaining a facade of civility as the tension boils underneath. The Brad Pitt training montage is great, as are Robert Redford’s vintage glasses. Worth checking out.
