Pinhole Movie Reviews

Celeste and Jesse Forever by tincolor

Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg are best friends in the kind of touchy-feely way that is annoying to everyone around them, they are also married, which would be great if they weren’t also getting divorced. The setup of this movie might make you think it’s the anti-rom-com, and in a lot of ways, it is because, and I promise you I’m not spoiling anything, they don’t get back together in the end. And one of the most successful parts of the film is that you don’t really want them to, but you do want them to figure out what they mean to one another. That said, its story arc and use of side characters with wacky advice bears more than passing similarities to your Matthew McConaughey/Tom Hanks/Ashton Kutcher-type films. A surprisingly mature plot and generally excellent dialogue and performances. Worth watching!
